Stowe Electric Department is excited to announce the launch of the Connected Homes Program, a new initiative designed to help residential customers better manage their energy use while supporting a more reliable and sustainable electric grid.

Connected Homes is a demand response flexible load management program that works with Wi-Fi-connected devices in the home, including compatible smart thermostats, home batteries, heat pump water heaters, and mini-split controllers. By enrolling in the program, customers agree to allow Stowe Electric to make brief, limited adjustments to their devices during times of high electric demand in exchange for an on-bill credit. Customers will receive a monthly incentive for each participating device, ranging from $5 to $30 per month (depending on the device). Incentives are paid out as a quarterly on-bill credit.
Changes made to your device(s) through the Connected Homes program are designed to reduce stress on the grid without significantly impacting the customer’s comfort or convenience. For example, during a period of peak demand, the charging of an electric vehicle may be temporarily curtailed. All adjustments are communicated in advance via text or email, and participants can opt out of any single event if they choose. However, customers who choose to override more than two events in a month will not be eligible to receive the incentive for that period.
Benefits of Connected Homes:
Supports grid reliability during periods of high demand.
Helps reduce carbon emissions by shifting energy use to off-peak hours.
Offers customers more control over their energy consumption.
Provides financial incentives for participation through on-bill credits
