New Community Solar Program Lowers Electric Bills for Income-Qualified Customers
Stowe Electric Department Encourages Local Households to Apply for Community Solar Program That Lowers Electric Bills
Stowe Electric is encouraging qualifying customers to apply for the Affordable Community Renewable Energy (ACRE) program, a new community solar initiative launched by the Vermont Public Power Supply Authority (VPPSA). ACRE helps qualifying Vermonters lower their electric bills with steady monthly credits — at no cost to apply and no cost to participate. Applications are open through December 31, 2026.
ACRE provides monthly bill credits that will save participating households $29.55 per month. The program is funded by the state of Vermont, allowing customers to participate free of charge with no fees, no equipment, and no added costs.
The clean energy powering ACRE comes from a solar facility in Barton, VT, supporting a clean, affordable, and reliable local electric grid.
“Affordability is a critical issue for many Vermonters. Stowe Electric is thrilled to be able to offer the ACRE program to both reduce electricity costs and provide access to renewable energy to income-qualified customers,” said Jackie Pratt, Stowe Electric General Manager. “Customers who qualify for ACRE will see a monthly on-bill credit of $29.55 per month for 60 months. ACRE has a meaningful impact on reducing electric costs, which allows those residents who are most burdened by the affordability crisis to stretch their income further.”
ACRE is open to renters and homeowners who meet both of the following criteria:
They are a residential customer of Stowe Electric Department or other participating public power utility
Their household income meets the qualifying guidelines.
Enrollment in the program is limited, and residents are encouraged to apply early. The application takes just a few minutes. Applicants need a recent electric bill and basic household income information.
