Stowe Electric Department has received the American Public Power Association’s (APPA) Smart Energy Provider (SEP) designation for demonstrating commitment to and proficiency in energy efficiency, distributed energy resources, and environmental initiatives that support the goal of providing safe, reliable, low-cost, and sustainable electric service.
The SEP designation, which lasts for two years (December 1, 2023, to November 30, 2025), recognizes public power utilities for demonstrating leading practices in four key disciplines: smart energy information; energy efficiency and distributed energy resources programs; environmental and sustainability programs and initiatives; and communication, education, and customer experience.
“APPA’s Smart Energy Provider designation recognizes Stowe Electric’s ongoing efforts to incorporate efficiency and sustainability while providing safe, reliable, affordable electric service to the Stowe community,” Stowe Electric Department General Manager Jackie Pratt said. “Earning and maintaining our SEP designation helps Stowe Electric benchmark and evaluate progress in those key areas compared to industry best practices.”
Stowe Electric Department is currently the only public power utility in Vermont to be designated as a Smart Energy Provider by the APPA. “Achieving the SEP designation is just one way Stowe Electric is striving to support the clean energy transition and a sustainable future for our industry,” Pratt said.
